With extension of the I-580 freeway south of Reno, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is constructing a concrete bridge over Galena Creek. With an arch spanning 698 feet, the 1,719-foot structure will be the longest of its kind in the United States. The Galena Creek Bridge is part of the $400 million I-580 freeway extension project between Reno and Carson City.
Bowling Mamola Group is documenting construction of this signature, $80 million bridge, using four digital cameras and recording images every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. The images are available via the Internet to the contractor, NDOT, and the public. Webcam photos capture four different time lapses. Click here to view. The cameras facilitate community outreach and project management, as well as project documentation.
