I-580 Galena Creek Bridge Web-Based Cameras Reno/Carson City, Nevada
With the extension of the I-580 freeway south of Reno, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) constructed several bridges, the longest of which is the concrete bridge over Galena Creek. With an arch spanning 698 feet, the 1,719-foot structure will be the longest of its kind in the United States. The Galena Creek Bridge is part of the $480 million I-580 freeway extension project between Reno and Carson City.

Bowling Mamola Group documented construction of this signature, $80 million bridge, using four digital cameras and recording images every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. During construction, the images were available via the Internet to the contractor, NDOT, and the public. Webcam photos captured four different time lapses. The cameras facilitated project management and community outreach, as well as project documentation.
